How many anti-aging sessions should you actually buy?

The quote lists 1, 3, 8 and 12 sessions, and the more you buy, the lower the price per session. Before deciding how many to buy, there are three things worth working out first.

In front of you is a price list laid out by number of sessions. One session costs this much, three get 10% off, eight get 25% off. No one is pushing you, but the table itself does the pushing. Each line down, the price per session drops a little, and you start to wonder whether buying just one is a bad deal.

Let’s be clear first: the number of sessions is not purely a price question. It is also a medical question (how many sessions make sense for me) and a scheduling question (how many times can I realistically come in the next two years). The answers to those two questions often matter far more than the discount.

1. Read the price list top to bottom: the discount has a ceiling

Take a July 2026 price list we have (intravenous infusion of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells, the 150 million cells per session tier, tax included):

  • 1 session: JPY 3,465,000
  • 2 sessions: 5% off, JPY 6,578,000
  • 3 sessions: 10% off, JPY 9,350,000
  • 4 sessions: 15% off, JPY 11,770,000
  • 6 sessions: 20% off, JPY 16,610,000
  • 8 sessions: 25% off, JPY 20,790,000
  • 10 sessions: JPY 25,987,500; 12 sessions: JPY 31,185,000

Did you spot it? From 8 sessions up, the discount stops at 25% and goes no higher. The price per session for 10 and 12 sessions is exactly the same as for 8.

That is the ceiling. It leads to a very practical conclusion: if you’re torn between 8 and 12 sessions, the extra 4 sessions don’t get you any further discount. You are simply paying in advance.

The other tier (100 million cells per session) only goes up to 4 sessions, with discounts from 0% to 15%: JPY 3,355,000 for 1 session, JPY 11,330,000 for 4. Here too, read the discount column from top to bottom and you’ll see the line where your savings start to level off.

2. “One session” doesn’t mean the same thing for every treatment

The same “number of sessions” can mean very different things. There are at least four kinds:

Injections: a session is a session. For example, a skin-booster injection (1 ampoule, or 1A, of stem cell culture supernatant plus hyaluronic acid) for the full face is JPY 99,000 for 1 session and JPY 267,300 for 3 (10% off). A scalp injection is JPY 88,000 for 1A and JPY 237,600 for 3 sessions (10% off). With these treatments, “3 sessions” means three clinic visits and three procedures. It’s straightforward.

Cultured cells: the first payment doesn’t buy treatment. For autologous fibroblast transplantation, you first pay JPY 594,000 for skin harvesting plus initial culture (enough culture for 10 sessions). After that, you pay separately by the volume transplanted: JPY 330,000 for 1cc, JPY 759,000 for 4cc, JPY 1,518,000 for 8cc, JPY 1,897,500 for 10cc. If the cells are stored long term, there is also an annual storage fee of JPY 198,000 per year. So asking how much “one session” of this treatment costs won’t get you an answer. It has to be worked out as at least three separate payments.

Prepaid credit: you’re buying money, not sessions. IV drip packages are essentially prepaid top-ups. The JPY 1,100,000 tier gives you JPY 1,430,000 in IV drip credit, valid for 2 years. The JPY 2,200,000 tier gives you JPY 2,970,000 in credit, valid for 3 years. Converted, that works out to roughly 23% and 26% off the credit value. But be clear that what you’re buying is credit, not sessions, and certainly not results.

Then there are packages with no discount. The 3-session package for immune cell therapy costs exactly three times the single-session price. There is no discount, and the incentive comes in the form of complimentary IV drips.

Work out which of these kinds the “sessions” in front of you belong to before you think about whether it’s a good deal.

3. What really limits you is often not money, but the validity period and your travel plans

Every package above comes with a line of fine print: valid for 2 years, or 3 years, from the date of purchase.

Put that line of fine print next to your actual life and do the math:

  • 12 sessions ÷ 2 years = one visit every two months on average.
  • If you can only manage one trip a year, that’s 2 visits in two years. Buy 8 or more sessions, and the rest will very likely expire unused.

This is where we most often advise clients to go down one tier. The discount is certain; your travel plans are not. Using a certain discount to bet on uncertain travel plans usually doesn’t pay off. The discount you give up buys you room to change your mind.

On the other hand, there are times when going up a tier is worth it. Some tiers specify that a first purchase of 2 or more sessions includes 3 years of storage for the seed cells needed for 10 rounds of cell culture, extended to 5 years for 4 or more sessions. If you already plan to continue long term, moving from 1 session to 2 gets you more than a 5% discount. The clinic’s current written terms take precedence, so check each clause before you sign.

4. On “how many sessions until it works”: what can and can’t be said

This is the question you most want answered, and the one that calls for the most care.

What can be said:

  • The effects of injection treatments usually don’t last permanently after a single session. That is the main reason these treatments are designed as courses, not just sales packaging. How long effects last varies widely by treatment and by person, and the doctor should explain this for the specific treatment during your consultation.
  • Based on your test results, the doctor decides whether a treatment is suitable for you and how far apart sessions should be. This is why a blood test is required before starting regenerative medicine treatments (regenerative medicine blood test JPY 33,000; if ovary-related treatments are assessed at the same time, the combined blood test is JPY 44,000, which is JPY 22,000 less than doing them separately).

What can’t be said:

  • We won’t tell you what you’ll look like after a certain number of sessions. No clinic can guarantee individual results, and any claim that does should itself make you cautious.
  • We also won’t use “results in so many courses” as a selling point. Individual differences, your starting condition and your lifestyle all affect the outcome. That isn’t a disclaimer. It’s a fact.

One more thing that isn’t pleasant to hear: for some treatments, the “list price” on the price sheet is the price filed with the regulatory authority. Filing is a compliance procedure, not proof of efficacy. When you see that line, please don’t read it as “officially recognized as effective.”

5. Next step: complete this one step, then ask the doctor four questions

The smallest step is this: don’t decide on the number of sessions at your first consultation. First complete the initial visit and the necessary blood tests (initial consultation fee JPY 5,500; regenerative medicine consultation fee JPY 11,000; regenerative medicine blood test JPY 33,000; all July 2026 prices, tax included), get the doctor’s assessment of whether the treatment is suitable for you, and only then discuss a course. Together these cost less than a small fraction of a single treatment, but they are the step that gives the big number that follows a sound basis.

Once you have that assessment, ask these four questions:

  • Given my current condition, what interval do you recommend? Realistically, how many sessions can I have within two years?
  • Roughly how long do the effects of this treatment last? What happens after I stop?
  • What would make me unsuitable for this treatment, or require stopping partway through?
  • How is the package validity period calculated? Can unused sessions be extended or transferred to another treatment?

If you already have a quote broken down by number of sessions, send it to us. We will put the discount structure, the validity period and your actual travel schedule on one table and work it out together, including when the answer is “you probably won’t use up this tier.”
